Your Questions about Peptides, Answered

What are peptides?

Peptides are naturally occurring biological molecules consisting of two or more amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Similar to amino acids and proteins, peptides perform numerous critical functions in the body. Notably, they send precise signals to our cells, directing activities such as tissue repair, hormone production, and the release of anti-inflammatory compounds to promote healing.

Are peptides legal?

Yes, peptides are legal. However, like many supplements and natural compounds, they are not regulated by governing bodies. It is important to note that certain peptides, due to their ability to enhance natural recovery, are banned by organizations such as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). You can search online to determine if specific peptides are permitted in your sport.

Why have I never heard of peptide therapy?

Most peptides are based on naturally occurring compounds within the body, making them difficult to patent. Without patents, pharmaceutical companies often lack interest. However, some well-known medical peptides, such as morphine, penicillin, and insulin, are widely recognized.

How can peptides have such a wide-ranging effect on nearly every bodily system?

Why are peptides becoming so popular?

Peptides are gaining popularity due to their effectiveness in replenishing natural peptide levels that decline with age, offering numerous health benefits. While some peptides have been available for over 50 years, recent advancements have increased their half-life and therapeutic potency, enhancing their effectiveness and stability in the bloodstream. Additionally, peptides are now more commercialized and accessible online.

What about the side effects?

Due to their shorter half-life, peptides do not accumulate in specific organs such as the kidneys or liver, resulting in very low toxicity levels. As they are based on naturally occurring compounds in the body, side effects are rare when used responsibly.

Do I need a doctor to use them?

No, but consulting with a trained professional or peptide expert is advisable if accessible and financially viable. Many anti-ageing clinics, sports clinics, and integrative doctors offer peptide therapy services.

Can a doctor prescribe them?

Yes, although many doctors may not be familiar with peptides despite their long-standing presence in the medical field.

How are peptides administered?

Peptides can be taken orally, topically, or as a nasal spray, but the most effective method is via subcutaneous injection. This method, similar to what millions of diabetics use daily with insulin, is more bioavailable.

  • Remove the plastic safety caps on both vials (peptide and BAC).
  • Alcohol swab the rubber stopper on each vial.
  • Draw the required amount of BAC into your syringe, removing air bubbles.
  • Insert the BAC syringe tip into the peptide vial and slowly administer the liquid along the side of the vial, not directly into the peptide powder.
  • Slowly rotate the peptide vial to mix the powder with the BAC.
How do I calculate how much BAC water to use?

Refer to the guide that came with your peptides or use a tool like the Peptide Reconstitution Calculator or the PepCalc app to determine the appropriate amount of BAC for your specific peptide.

How do I store peptides?

Lyophilized (Powder) Peptides: Store in the refrigerator (under 4°C / 39°F) for 1-2 years. If not used within 1-2 months, store in the freezer (-18°C / 0°F) for 2-3 years.
Reconstituted (Mixed) Peptides: Store in the refrigerator, where they will remain stable for up to 30 days. Only reconstitute one month’s supply at a time, keeping the remaining powder peptides refrigerated or frozen.

Where can I buy peptides safely?

The safest option is to obtain peptides through a legitimate healthcare provider who can develop an appropriate protocol for your needs. When purchasing online, exercise extreme caution. At DN Lab Research, we have over 10 years of experience sourcing and working with peptides.
